Antique David Maxwell & Sons Two-Horse Cutter Sleigh w/ Pole – Canadian – c.1880

Description

Antique two-horse cutter sleigh bearing a David Maxwell Sons tag, a known Canadian maker of horse-drawn vehicles active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This sleigh dates to approximately 1880–1910 and features a hand-crafted wooden body with forged iron runners and undercarriage. Original painted surfaces remain visible, including a gray exterior and red interior panels. The high back seat retains remnants of original upholstery and stuffing, consistent with age and use.

Importantly, this sleigh includes a center pole and original loose hardware, indicating it was designed for two horses abreast, a more substantial and less common configuration than standard single-horse cutters.

Offered in unrestored, as-found condition, preserving its authentic surface, construction details, and patina. Ideal for restoration, museum or collection display, seasonal décor, or film and set use.
